sneak-a-peek | sarah and jon

sometimes even the most rehearsed, stylized, down right “perfect” images takes a back seat to a very intimate, candid, shot from the hip kinda moment. this is such a moment. sarah and jon were married yesterday and in a flash their day became a part of everyone’s memory. a memory that, karen and i, will not soon forget. gracious, warm, loving, funny, wacky, a bit left of center and ohhhh so colorful. all the qualities that we love about sarah and jon!

just wanted to tease ya with a little som em som em. again, this “scene-grab” (my new catch phrase) is but one of a whole boat load of really, really, really fun and beautiful images to come.

Congratulation sarah and jon. have a fantastic honeymoon. dinner, preview and a whole lot of stories when you return. blue moon rocks!

malibu inn | malibu wedding photography | starr and brian

A day in the life of an engaged couple and what a blast we had… We first met up with starr & brian at the beach in Malibu at the The Malibu Beach Inn 22878 Pacific Coast Highway Malibu, CA 90265 (310) 456-6444 and boy did we play. The ocean had a mind of it’s own on this day, however, getting swept away with your fiancée’ is the best way to spend a Saturday, right? We headed out to the marina and celebrated a wonderful sushi luncheon and then visited the boatyard for their “save the date.” we are often asked by our couples “have you done this before”? and Joey and I are always looking to one-up ourselves on the “unique.” This is what makes us different!!! Film and Digital age is at an all time high right now, and my husband’s skill is maddening from capture to post production. To take the “save the date” to a whole new level of wow was a vision Joey and I created, together for our couple! You think we’d be done after the “save the date”, but nooooo we took starr & brian back to Loyola Marymount University, 1 LMU Drive, Los Angeles, California 90045 (310)338-2700 where they met a few years ago in the gymnasium, on campus, of all places. To walk the grounds and share starr and brian’s story of where they fell in love was some of the best studies joey and I took in this summer!:)Congratulations you two.. The date is SAVED! Xo karen & joey

griffith park | los angeles portrait photography | ramos family

portrait of a family has become a very important part of my photography and let me tell you why. too often, karen and i, are approached by individuals that want nothing more than to have a portrait of their family but never have made the time or time has never been afforded in their increasingly busy lives. this has become more than just a portrait session it has become a recording session. to be given the gift of photography karen and i have dedicated ourselves to make a recording of a moment in time. a moment that families will always remember. growing up i found myself, in moments of great joy and heartfelt sorrow, surrounding myself in photos. photos can be a time stamp to get the memory firing again, bring us back or make us truly grateful to have been present.

to those who know him, tim is one of the most generous, giving, exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxtremely talented, loving father and down right devoted man to his family and friends. he has made a career… a life stamp if you will, designing, illustrating and art directing pieces of art. pieces of art images that are so incredibly amazing, beautiful, humorous, powerful, exciting, emotional… individual moments of sheer excellence that has earned both admiration and respect from his colleagues at the walt disney studios home entertainment, in the industry and countless artists and consumers around the world. to see a reflection of a man through the eyes of his children not only gives you a glimpse of the soul of the man but also what he holds dear to his heart. i have known tim for just under 15 years. today, karen and i can be seen in this reflection and are honored to have been able to share in this moment with our “portrait of familia”.

Dana Jordan - Joey, you nailed it! Again! We hear again and again that it is not personal, just business. Well, you are blessed with a talent that is personal, and reflects a talent that not everyone shares. Embrace it! You are blessed…a beautiful family portrait of a family that will be PERSONAL and chersihed forever. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Tim Ramos - true artistry. it’s one of many ways to describe joey’s talent. he is able to visually capture life as we would love to see it. his genuine passion for his profession has made him a master of his craft. when it comes to capturing life i recommended and have recommended him exclusively. for those who don’t take my recommendation well, they are the poorer for it.

a private affair | simi valley wedding photography | nicole and will

i really enjoy celebrating in a bride and grooms wedding day. nicole and will took it one step further. they invited karen and i to celebrate their wedding in an intimate gathering with a few of their closest friends and family… in the back yard of their home. the pride that was projected and shared by their family was evident from the start. so much so, as karen and i looked around we were besieged by family and friends that could not stop smiling and or crying with joy. this overwhelming amount of joy and pride made what we do that much easier.:)

there is no secret that family is important to me and that i love meeting new and interesting/colorful people, especially the grand’s, the great’s and the small fries! the grand’s and the great’s are the grandparent’s, great grand parent’s, great aunts, great uncles and anyone that is introduced as … oh and she/he is great. and the small fries are… well, you know – chickens, ankle bitters, monkeys, offspring, rug rats, pups. i digress. anyhow, this is why i had to show a family portrait of the grand’s and great’s that came to celebrate nicole and will’s weeding. awesome. the banana and palm trees provided a hawaiian retreat, that i found out, were intentionally placed to bring the island back so the family can enjoy one of their favorite destinations. nicole’s father streamed lights throughout their property for a very romantic and private view of the home at night that made for some challenging images but oh so cool!

congratulation to nicole, will and their family and friends. your family just became greater!

walnut grove | moorpark wedding | kerri and scott

Imagine what it would be like to have your dream wedding inside of a “walnut grove” and bring in a group of “amazing wedding partners” that work wonderfully together? Could it get any better? Well, it does… Kerri and Scott were on a journey not only to have an incredible wedding day experience but to have a team that would worked well together and give them exactly just that…a beautiful day at the walnut grove 3370 Sunset Valley Rd Moorpark, CA 93021 (805) 558-8279. The way their wedding day unfolded could not have been scripted any better. Seeing each other beforehand was right out of a storybook. Joey and I and our associate Don rocked it in the Grove and never stopped. Each of us, worked tirelessly and effortlessly to deliver such an experience.

Michele Spring of Mia Bella Weddings and now representing the Walnut Grove was at the helm from start to finish. Michele’s coordination and timing was incredible and what a joy to work with. She took care of everyone on this toasty hot summer day! Chris from Elegant Event Entertainment worked hand and hand with us for each special event “moment” throughout. Chris’ communication was awesome and soooo welcomed. Even timing of a song down to minutes just to do nighttime editorial was the best. Command Performance catered Kerri & Scott’s wedding and yet again delivered another “Command Performance.” Marshall was our captain, and he and the Command Performance team designed a spread that you really just wanted to look at it for a while before you touched it… too cool. So kerri & Scott in lieu of cake decided to search for the unique and they found Jana of Jana’s Creative Cakes 2646 Palma Drive Ventura, CA 93003. What Jana delivered was an incredible tier of brownie choice savories that even had me asking for more, WOW! We even brought some home for the kids! The florals they too, were “unique floral designs” by laurie comeaux 5914 Cochran Street Simi Valley, CA 93063 (805) 522-1669.

To Kerri and Scott we salute you, your wedding will go down in our legacy as a 2010 summer highlight, thank you for not only bringing us all together and sharing your exquisite wedding with us. The photography well, need I say more… ps. a VIP shout out to the Miller’s, Judy and Fred… You ROCK!

On another wedding note, Just days prior to kerri and scott’s wedding they went into Goldmine Recording Studio’s Callens Rd Ventura, CA 93003 (805) 644-8341. Where they would record johann pachelbel’s canon in d featuring kerri on the flute and scott on the saxophone. Their piece would be played as a surprise during their wedding ceremony. Special yes, we know!!!

Congratulations again you two! Karen and Joey

oh – one last thing. i’m often asked…”where is joey? how did you do that? is that? when did? did you shoot that or photoshop’d? what’s in your head? welllllllllllllllllll – here it is.
