stephen’s bar mitzvah at temple judea 6601 Valley Circle Blvd. West Hills, CA 91307 (818) 758-3800 was, without a question, a very moving and growing experience. you see at a bar mitzvah, during the ceremony especially, a young man is given an opportunity to speak what’s in his heart and what’s on his mind about, well, everything. stephen chose to speak about listening, acceptance and tolerance. now, mind you he’s 13 and he spoke way beyond his years that made everyone in the temple take pause. listening to this young man made us all hear what we all know but need more of… appreciation, love and respect for those around us. i’m telling you he’s 13.

now the party! what can i say, the canyon club 28912 Roadside Drive Agoura Hills, CA 91301-3304 (818) 879-5016 continues to impress me with great ideas to “kick it up a notch”. we arrived at the canyon club with the sounds of a billion teenagers laughing their heads off. to my surprise… stephen was flaying around on a mechanical bull with his buddies cheering him on to be “thrown off!” too cool. i really can not say enough about how much fun mitzvah’s are… a rollercoaster of emotions mixed in with an overwhelming amount of pride and excitment.

i am sooooooo grateful to have been invited to be present at stephen’s mitzvah and share in the celebration with his family and friends. congratulations!

Earlier this season we celebrated an amazing evening with Natasha and Louie (Jake’s parents) Jake and his little brother Charlie for “Jake’s Bar Mitzvah Album Presentation.” We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this family and cannot say enough. We feel soooo blessed to be part of this young man’s legacy! It is something that only a photographer, an artist could truly understand…. Hhhhmmm, Natasha? Okay, so in honor of “Michelle & Mark’s” Bridal Album presentation (just a few weeks prior), Louie pulled out the hats too, lol! Thanks Mark, you started a new trend within the group. Natasha, the exotic thai is now a new household favorite. Thank you so much for sharing your special gifts with us! We adore you more than you know. here are a few of our favorite album spreads from jake’s album.

Thank you Natasha and Louie for welcoming us into your lives and into the group, we cannot wait for the summer pizza parties and breaking in the new pizza oven! Xoxo, K&J

i am very impressed with those whom take pride in who they are and whom they are to become at a very young age of thirteen. bar/bat mitzvahs are one of the cornerstones of a young persons life that karen and i are just so fortunate to share. mitzvahs are such an exciting, fun, emotional, reflective and joyous day that the parents and family cannot hide their pride.

like when michelle was escorted around, by her father, with the tora. you can just see the excitement in both father and daughter. contagious!

michelle greeted her day with a grace and youthfulness that was so exciting to witness during her ceremony and especially during her hora. always a hit in my book! what i enjoy the most is sharing moments with families that come with great importance and trust that when karen and i are invited…the memories will never fade.

a special thank you to lance sterling at the canyon club and his amazing staff. congratulations to you michelle, mazal tov!

there is something about a father and his sons love that can illuminate an entire room when witnessed together celebrating a young mans bar mitzvah.

speaking from a father’s point a view, images like these bring pride to all fathers. the pride from both father and son is soooooooo priceless. as parents we sometimes forget that our children mirror us so readily so being able to capture the relationship between gabriel and his father only strengthen my love for my son. it so made me smile when i photographed gabriel’s father planting a BIG smacker on gabriel’s face.

i was privileged to be gabriel’s photographer at his bar mitzvah and i enjoyed every minute of it. i often find moments that define an emotion that just stops me in my tracks…the image of an elder of the family reading during the ceremony brought me to tears. this was such a moment…”a defining moment”.

there was a time during the party that the dj pulled out a guitar hero “playoff” that gabriel ROCKED the house. this shot happened without any setup. toooooooo much!

the last photo was a of gabriel hitch hiking down the road after the party. something of an inside joke within the family. do you notice that the photo is two separate images?

mazal tov gabriel…enjoy the journey.

ethan’s outlook on life from the outside in is awesome. one of my favorite things to do is being surrounded with laughter, high energy and pure FUN!

ethan had all these ingredients. when he stood up and announced to everyone that he was ready to declare his responsibility of his faith there wasn’t a dry eye in the temple. at the same time he made sure that everyone knew with a little bit of humor even the stern of hearts could break out smiling…with him. his enthusiasm and love of live is and was infectious.

at times it was everything i could do to keep up with him and his family, but the time we had together went by too fast. my hat’s off to ethan and his family for making all whom shared in his day very proud and grateful to be present.

view jake’s online bar mitzvah album here blending a tradition dating back to their father’s fathers, today’s generation has an enormous respect to the path taken and for the path being taken today. a path taken by men and women that see life as a ball of energy that brings light to all whom are present. jake’s bar mitzvah was full of light, humor, music and love. all to be shared by his family and friends. what a great moment in life to be present.

looking at the elders “pause of reflection” was a very powerful moment.

jake’s portrait captured his pride written all over his face.

asking all those present to come up and light their candles captured the spirit and love shared by all the lives he has touched.

i was grateful to be given this opportunity to be PRESENT.
